Patel returns to Board

MARION AGM sees Emma Batchelor returned as Chair and Zoya Patel return to the Board


MARION, the leading organisation for writing-based culture in the ACT, held its digital AGM by Zoom on Tuesday 18 April.

The MARION team are delighted to welcome Zoya Patel back to the Board of Directors and to see Emma Batchelor return as Chair.

Zoya Patel has been writing and creating on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country since the early 2000s, and was the Editor-In-Chief of Lip Magazine (which was founded in Canberra) from 2010 - 2014. Zoya also founded literary journal Feminartsy which operated in Canberra from 2014 - 2019. Through both of these appointments, she nurtured numerous writers and published hundreds of pieces. She is a twice-published author, and has experience at a national level, including as a Judge and Chair of the Stella Prize in 2020 and 2021, and also as a Judge in the NSW Premier's Literary Awards in 2022. We are delighted to have Zoya return to the MARION Board.

Chris Huet was re-instated as Secretary following his successful re-nomination for a fresh two-year term with the MARION Board. Jacqueline de Rose-Ahearn was also successful in her re-nomination to the Board.

MARION farewelled outgoing Deputy Chair, Alex Sloan AM, acknowledging her for her valuable contributions and advocacy. Board member and financial subcommittee member, Thao Le, was also farewelled as she concluded her tenure with the MARION Board. Her dedication and financial and expertise have been a wonderful asset to the organisation.
